Five Fabulous Finds for July

Updated: Dec 24, 2023

July is such a fun month. Growing up in the United States the main event is on the 4th where everyone usually has cookouts and fireworks. This year, I’m not sure that’s going to happen, but that’s normally what we look forward to. This is also ideal beach weather in my opinion. Coming from Florida I just LOVE warm weather and sleeping with the windows open and nice stuff like that. So for this month, I found five really fun and interesting articles from around the web and I hope you enjoy them!

1.) How Dark is your Darkside? No one is perfectly good (unless you’re a deity of some sort and even then Look at Zeus). Knowing and accepting your Darkside can actually make you mentally healthy in the long run. You’re no longer in denial and can acknowledge and work with that Darkside you have to make better choices rather than impulsive ones. Psychology actually has a lot to say about making friends with your “Shadow Self”. I found this article about the Dark Core of Personality to be really interesting. I’ve spent a few years in therapy learning to love my Darkside and knowing how to accept it and work with it rather than letting it control me and I’ve become happier for acknowledging it.

2.) July is the month for Grilling! Amin and I recently bought a grill and it was strangely hard to light. I mean, I was frustrated, like give a five-year-old a box of matches and you’re gonna have a house fire. Give a grill, charcoal, a lighter and lighter fluid to two 35-year-olds and an hour later there wills till not be a fire. I don’t know what to say. However, if you’re thinking about getting a grill, The YouTube above helped a lot…but you’ll still probably have to continue trying.

3.) Things are so uncertain right now. The stock market is crazy, there are riots, there’s the pandemic, college loans are expensive and no one seems to be able to find work. The future can feel really uncertain and even a bit scary since we can’t always anticipate what we’re going to experience. I found this article about the 11 ways emotionally intelligent people deal with uncertainty and it’s helped me to at least feel calmer while all this stuff is going on.

4.) If you (like me) are renting and have spent an abnormally long time staring at the same white walls wishing you could change them, I have some good news! I’ve been looking into temporary wallpaper and guys, they have some amazing designs out now. I might make a Youtube video about giving my office a makeover, but for now, I just wanted to pass this info on. The sites I like the best to buy this stuff would be Wayfair and Overstock

5.) I ADORE RuPaul. Seriously, when I’m having a bad day I’ll put on RuPaul’s Drag race not so much to see queens compete but to hear some of the wisdom and thoughtfulness that comes from some of those episodes. So when I found out he had made a Master Class about self-expression and authenticity, I knew I had to sign up. The Master Class is a program where people who are considered tops in their field give you some insight on how to do what they’re doing. They have everything from self-help, communication, and even fun stuff like cooking classes or guitar classes. I absolutely love and it and for $15 a month I consider it a steal!

I hope you guys liked these posts as much as I did, as always if you want to talk more about them with me, drop me a line in the comments below. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and have a beautiful day! -Heather Astaneh
