1,700 Calories a Day Challenge: JAPANESE FOOD ONLY!

I'm going to show you how to have Natto for Breakfast, make a fresh Bento for Lunch, and create a delicious and super cheap Japanese Ramen for Dinner!

Natto Breakfast

Ingredients:

  • Natto (check your local Asian Food mart's frozen food area).

  • 1/2 cup of Rice (cooked)

  • 1 egg poached

  • Green onion

  • 1 fillet of Salmon if you're worried about your protein intake

Instructions:

1.) Cook your rice according to package instructions. As well as your Salmon if you're planning on having any.

2.) Poach an egg in water.

3.) Cut your Green Onion

4.) Layer the rice first, followed by the natto, then the poached egg and the green onion. Enjoy!

Karaage Chicken with Macaroni Salad:

Ingredients:

  • 3oz Karaage Chicken (usually sold in the frozen food section of Asian stores)

  • 4-5 Spinach leaves

  • 1/2 cup of Rice (cooked)

  • 4-5 sprigs of Asparagus

  • 3 Pork and Corn Sausage links (also sold in the frozen food section of Asian stores)

  • Rice Seasoning (Found in Asian Stores)

  • 2 inches of Carrot, peeled, and cut into match sticks

  • 2 inches of Celery chopped thin

  • 2 green onions (chop just the green part)

  • 1 tablespoon of Mayo (Miracle Whip, Kewpie, or regular Mayo is acceptable)

  • 1/4 cup of small pasta like macaroni, or mini shells

  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1.) Add your cooked rice and top with the rice seasoning.

2.) Take two pots full of water and allow them to boil. Season the pot you want to cook your pasta in with Salt.

3.) Add a 1/4 cup of dried pasta to the pot with salt water. Cook until done, drain, and allow to cool in a bowl.

4.) Chop your Asparagus and add it to the other pot to boil for 7 minutes. Layer your spinach leaves against the rice and your asparagus over that to create a wall between your rice and the rest of the bento.

5.) Chop your carrot, celery, and green onions and add to the pasta along with a tablespoon of mayo. Mix and season with salt and pepper. This makes two servings, so take half and add it to a cupcake liner or silicone liner.

6.) Add in your cooked Chicken Karaage and Pork and Corn links.

7.) Fill in any gaps in the bento with other veggies or spinach. Enjoy!

Elevated Cup Ramen

Ingredients:

  • 1 single-serve cup Ramen of your choice. I used Maruchan Chicken Flavored.

  • Enoki Mushrooms,

  • 5 Round pieces of Carrots (optional if they're cut attractively)

  • 1 egg

  • 2 Shrimp Tempura (frozen is fine)

  • Nori sushi seaweed cut into 4-5 strips.

Instructions:

1.) Hard boil your egg and cook Tempura according to package instructions.

2.) Boil your enoki mushrooms and carrots until they are tender

3.) Add boiling water to your ramen and allow it to sit per package instructions.

4.) Pour ramen into a bowl, add in carrots and mushrooms, and add in your shrimp tempura followed by your nori sheets. Lastly, add in your hard-boiled egg, crack open a Japanese Wheat Beer, and Enjoy!
