Celebrate St. Patty’s with some Green and Gold Ombre Nails!

Updated: Dec 24, 2023

Get your green and gold on literally! These cute green ombre nails are sure to get you noticed while sipping a pint. If you’ve never done an ombre nail before, this guide will show you how, it’s a tad bit messy but has a beautiful effect. Use it on one or all of your nails and top it off with a god accent nail! Nothing summons the luck of the Irish like these babies!

The nice thing about these nails is that you might currently have all that you need to get this look at your house right now! You don’t have to use just green and you also don’t have to do all your nails as I did. This is all about YOUR self-expression, so take what you want and leave the rest! Okay, let’s get started!

1.) To get this look, you always want to make sure you start off with nails free of polish, clipped, filed and shaped. Also, you’re going to want to push back your cuticles and possibly trim them. After that’s done, paint your nails with O.P.I. Ridge filler so you get a smooth surface to work with.

2.) For the nails you plan to do an ombre look on, you’ll want to do one coat of O.P.I Alpine Snow. This is going to make your colors stand out a bit more vibrantly. If you’re doing a gold accent nail, this is a good time to start putting your first coat on that too, so you don’t accidentally forget about it and paint over it (which I’ve done in the past).

3.) I like to use something simple like Elmers Glue as a skin protectant. This is a really messy thing, and while I can buy a proper skin protector I am always looking for a deal and this glue works basically the same way as other skin protectors. Apply the glue all around the nail being careful to not actually paint your nails.

4.) Once your polish has dried you’re going to start the ombre look. To do this, you’re going to take your make up sponge and paint three stips using the lightest to the darkest (around three colors). you’re then going to dab this onto one of your white nails. This will probably look really light at first, but I assure you that as you let it dry and reapply it will get darker. BE SURE TO SWITCH OUT YOUR SPONGES!!!! Sometimes if you use the same too many times, little pieces can come of ON YOUR NAIL! This is obviously not part of the look, so be aware when things start to look rough and switch out the sponge before it gets to that point.

5.) Once you’ve reached the desired coverage on your nails, and they’ve fully dried, apply O.P.I. Top Coat over your nails to protect your look.

6.) Carefully peel off the glue from your nails and clean up any messy edges with your nail brush and some nail polish remover.
