Featured Stone of May: Lapis Lazuli

Updated: Dec 24, 2023

Lapis Lazuli is a gorgeous blue stone with a lot of wonderful properties. Considering I’m giving away a mala necklace that features this stone I thought it would be good to go over some of the cool facts and metaphysical properties that this stone is believed to poses.

Lapis Lazuli is actually a really cool crystal with lots of deep history and beliefs.

The color blue is actually really rare in nature as THIS article describes. So this stone was really impressive when found. It was even used in the Burial Mask of Tutankhamun! Cleopatra used to grind lapis lazuli and use it as eye shadow and it’s been recently discovered in the teeth of a woman from the Middle Ages. In the Islamic religion, it’s believed to guard against the “Evil Eye”. It’s seen in many other cultures and beliefs for its mystical properties.

More often than not Lapis Lazuli is used to balance the throat chakra and the third eye chakra. It’s often recommended that people who have difficulty expressing themselves carry this stone in their pocket or meditate with it. When you think of your throat, think of how it houses our vocal cords. If this is where the throat chakra resides and it’s blocked people often have a hard time speaking up for themselves, for what they want, or even expressing anger which often becomes repressed.

The third eye chakra is located right between the eyebrows. It’s responsible for “thinking” aspects of who we are. It’s psychic in the sense of being able to perceive the world around it. If that’s blocked you can have trouble concentrating, or seeing the reality in a situation and may experience anxiety because of it. You might think that someone is mad at you when they actually aren’t. You might also have a difficult time being comfortable with the unknown. Lapis Lazuli is said to bring those chakras into balance being neither overactive or underactive but just right which will allow you to not only perceive what’s going on around you with accuracy but to also speak honestly to where you are and what you want.

In terms of how it deals with spiritual energy, this stone has been used by healers, royalty, and priests for years. There is a certain “power” that comes with it. It’s believed to connect the user with their Intuitive self and because of that it’s linked with being a crystal that is connected with Universal Truth.

It’s a great stress reliever and great to use if you are trying to remember your dreams. It’s also good if you’re trying to deal with anger. It’s said that wearing this stone will help alleviate heavy sad thoughts, dark memories.

If you happen to be a Taurus, Libra, Sagittarius, or Capricorn this is your stone! Hopefully, this gives you a little more insight into this gorgeous stone, and how it can help you get through difficult lifetimes. If you have any experiences with this stone that you’d like to share drop me a line in the comments below. During these tough times, I hope that this blog brings you some fun and comfort during isolation. Hang in there. -Heather Astaneh
