How To Make these Sexy Latino Valentine Nails!

Updated: Dec 24, 2023

Valentine’s colors are almost always red, pink, and white. Which are all great colors, but this year I wanted to do something a bit more unexpected. I saw this heart pattern on a MoYou London plate and thought it would be perfect to try with some bold tropical colors. This is an excellent look if you want to mix it up a bit, or if you are lucky enough to be either living or visiting someplace lovely and warm!

Last year I did these adorable Valentine’s sweater nails in classic pink and white. However, this year I wanted to go for something different than standard Valentine’s colors. Growing up in Florida, I had Cuban and Puerto Rican neighbors. As a middle-class homeschooled white girl with uptight parents, it was nice to get to know another culture so close to home. Literally.  They taught me how to salsa dance, invited me to Quincieras, and all I can say about their New Year’s Eve parties was that they were incredibly fun, and my parents often got upset because our Cuban neighbors would get drunk and fire guns into the air which was both exhilarating and incredibly dangerous (and I loved it). I’m not joking.

It’s because of these wild neighbors I started watching Latino Soap Operas and while I couldn’t (and still don’t ) speak Spanish, I enjoyed trying to figure out the complex and passionate storylines. If there was one thing that separated the Latino families in my neighborhood and my family, it was passion. I LOVED how beautifully passionate these people were. Their fights were intense, their dances were sensual, and even the food and colors were bold and vibrant. When I think of a happy life, I often think of those parties where despite being the only white girl who couldn’t dance in the room, I was having fun and making a memory of what I wanted to grow up to be.

Here in Massachusetts, far away from Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Caribbean, I don’t see that kind of passion anymore, but when I thought of what I wanted to do for valentine’s nails, I immediately thought of those memories. So I’m going to show you how to make these gorgeous nails if you want to spice up your Valentine’s look a little.

You will need the following items:

O.P.I. Top Coat

O.P.I. Ridge Filler

O.P.I. I’m So Swamped

O.P.I. Sun Sea and Sand in My Pants

O.P.I. Lincoln Park After Dark

Orange stick

Nail clippers

Nail file

Nailpolish Remover, Qtips, and cotton balls

Instructions:

1.) Always start with clean nails. Remove any old polish, clip shape and file, and either push or cut the cuticles back.

2.) Do one coat of the ridge filler. This will cause the nail polish to lay smoothly on top of the nail.

3.) Paint a couple of coats of the O.P.I “Music is My Muse”

4.) Once dry, use the O.P.I. “Lincoln Park After Dark” and your Crystal Clear Nail Stamper to pick up the pattern for both the index and ring fingers. This pattern you can put straight onto the nail.

5.) Paint a few nail spaces on your silicone Magic Workshop pad with O.P.I. Topcoat. This will give your stamp in the next step something to adhere too.

6.) Then with O.P.I. “Lincoln Park After Dark” take a stamp that has the same pattern with the addition of a heart with a keyhole on it. Stamp the design on the space you painted with the O.P.I Topcoat.

7.) Using an orange stick, dip it into the Red, yellow, and green O.P.I polishes and dab the color in the appropriate places. Wait for it to dry, and once it’s dry, use the orange stick to peel it up from the silicone and places it carefully on the middle finger.

8.) Using either Qtips or Cotton balls, clean the edges of the nail and seal all nails with O.P.I Topcoat being careful not press the brush too hard and smudge the design. AND YOU’RE DONE!

They aren’t the typical Valentine’s nails, but their sure to stand out and get some attention!
