How to Make this Salty Sweet Bacon Crack

Updated: Dec 23, 2023

This is an EASY treat to make and absolutely delicious. I’ll be honest, it was so simple to make that I didn’t really have much faith in the taste, but I was blown away! It’s everything you would want in a little treat. It’s sweet, it’s salty and it can be a tasty decoration in a big bowl of pumpkin ice cream. No matter how you eat this, you won’t be let down by the flavor.

If there was ever a treat that embodied the flavors of fall, this would be high on my list. The smokiness of the bacon is complemented by the sweet flavor of the maple syrup and brown sugar which melts into a subtle caramel flavor. The dough is thin and gives not just a good support to the toppings, but a tempting crunch when it’s bitten into. It comes together in about 40 minutes from start to finish. I managed to find this recipe on The Domestic Rebel. The only thing I wish I had done was to maybe add a drizzle of chocolate to it but putting a piece with ice cream really made the ice cream look extra special.

  1. 1 lb. bacon (you can get the plain kind or honey smoked kind)

  2. 1 pkg Pillsbury crescent rolls (I used the original flavor)

  3. ¼ cup maple syrup

  4. ¾ cup brown sugar

1.) Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray.

2.) Unroll the crescent roll pastry in one sheet and if it comes perforated pinch those closed. Stretch the dough thin with your hands so it will bake evenly and develop a nice crispness to it. Prick the dough all over with a fork so that the pastry won’t rise and set aside.

3.) Cook the bacon halfway. You don’t want it crispy because it will be finishing in the oven, but you also don’t want it raw. I cooked mine until there was only a slight pink color left. Remove from pan and rest on a paper towel-lined plate.

4.) Drizzle half of the maple syrup over the crescent roll dough and spread it out with the back of a spoon. Then sprinkle half of the brown sugar over that. Next, chop or tear the semi-cooked bacon into little pieces and sprinkle that over the dough. Finish off by drizzling the remaining maple syrup on the bacon and topping with the rest of the brown sugar.

5.) Bake for around 20-25 minutes or until it’s bubbling and the brown sugar has caramelized. Remove from oven and allow the pan to cool down till it’s either warm to the touch or room temperature before cutting or breaking into pieces.

6.) To store this, place it in an airtight container and place in the fridge. It can be enjoyed at room temperature or slightly warm and is perfect for ice creams! Enjoy!
