My Top Three Goals for this New Year!

Updated: Sep 4, 2022

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! I’ve heard two sides about the sharing of New Year Goals. One side says you shouldn’t tell anyone to avoid being criticized, just nose down and go after it kind of mindset. The other side says you should definitely tell people to hold yourself accountable (also bragging is kinda fun).

I personally like telling people my goals because I we all go through ups and downs and it’s good to destigmatize failure! I like to discuss the process of making goals, making progress and what to do when failure happens because it’s life and rarely does a person reach a goal without setbacks.

So for this post, I’m going to talk about my hopes for this year. They may workout, they may not, you might even see a re-run or two, but ultimately these are my hopes for the new year and I hope they inspire you a bit.

WE’RE BACK HERE AGAIN!!!! Why would I list a failure from last year here?!?! Because, you only fail if you give up, and I don’t like giving up on things ESPECIALLY if I fail the first time around. Just because you fail at something doesn’t mean you should give up completely. I almost feel like failing the first time around makes victory taste that much better when you do get it.

I learned a lot about the psychology of weight loss last year and sometimes we fail because our motives aren’t strong enough. Sometimes failure happens because there is more learning about the problem that needs to be done, AND THAT IS OKAY!!!! This may be another learning year, but I’m going to do my best.

My ultimate goal is to get back down to the edge of my healthy weight range for my age, height, and gender which is 150, after that I will be assessing my goals in 5-10 lb increments. When I was 140 I was crazy healthy and lived at the gym, but I didn’t like how I looked, so I think I might be happier with 145, but that’s why I’m going to proceed with caution after 150. Just getting to 150 will be a pretty big undertaking. I am currently 240, so you do the math. I want to do this by losing 1-2 lbs a week in a healthy and stable way with diet (mostly just eating healthier) and exercising in a way that makes me feel good and is sustainable. I am not looking to be unhealthy about this, but I also know that where I am currently IS UNHEALTHY. Losing my breath if I walk too fast, being tired all the time, feeling bad when I look at myself is unhealthy, as is feeling like I don’t deserve to be healthy. Eating to solve my emotional issues isn’t healthy. Please know if you’re happy with your weight then that’s all that matters. I, right now, am not happy with my weight….and neither are my doctors. So this is a goal I’m going to shoot for again.

Here was a success story from last year. My first post for 2019 was about my goals and the idea of consistently blogging once a week scared me badly. I mean honestly, treating this like a job, having deadlines but also a life outside of blogging…I was terrified! I didn’t really believe I could keep it up…but here I am… a year later..52 consistent posts later…I did it!

So what do you do when you achieve a goal? Well, you make a bigger goal of course! What is my bigger goal? POSTING THREE TIMES A WEEK!!!! I’m tripling what I did last year and trust me this is scary. I’ll be posting Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I don’t have a team of people. I don’t have someone taking and editing my photos to be blog ready. It’s all me for now so that means I need to be focused. I’ve already got several posts for this year done. I love blogging so spending a weekend, going through and writing articles is fun, but each post takes roughly 2-3 hours from start to finish, longer if it’s a recipe or DIY that I have to make and take pictures of. The idea of doing three posts a week is really intense, but hey…goals are supposed to feel a little scary right?

I want to have more fun. This is a lifestyle blog and it’s about my life and what it’s like to live in a way that resonates with you as a person. I seek out fun. I seek out fun in what I eat, what I do, and how I relax and I’ve spent the last year in therapy working on finding what makes me smile. I plan to be posting more about how I found my happy and if you really want to stay up to date on what I’m doing, please follow me on Instagram! Having fun is more than just bubble baths and spa days. It’s about doing what makes your soul smile. My therapist told me that self-care is supposed to be an expression of how you already feel about yourself. You shouldn’t be bribing yourself with baths in order to force yourself to love yourself. You love yourself and therefore you feel good spoiling yourself. So I’ll be writing more about this in the coming months, and of course, you can always ask me questions either here on my blog, or on my Facebook or Instagram.

So that’s my goal list this year. Three things that I believe would really make a massive difference in my quality of life. If you want to be even more up to date on what I’m doing towards my goals, you can follow me on Facebook and/or Instagram which is listed in the sidebar to your right. If you have goals and want to share them, feel free to do so in the comments section below! I love connecting with my followers and perhaps I’ll even join you if our goals are compatible! Happy New Year! I wish you all the best. Much love, success and good health! -Heather Autumn
