What to Expect at PAX EAST with VIDEO!

Updated: Dec 29, 2023

The gaming industry has become massive, and every year for the last five years I’ve been going to a three-day conference that focuses solely on that. There’s so much to do, explore and see at this conference that you can easily spend three days. With tickets for this year currently being sold, I wanted to give you a taste of what you can expect to see if you go! The video included with this article is what happened when I went last year.

If you’re interested in viewing any of the businesses I interviewed, please check out the links below!

The first time I went to PAX it was a bit overwhelming. First, as a natural introvert, the sheer amount of people in one space was a little crazy, but for the most part, it’s a really good and friendly crowd. These are all gamers who are interested in finding out what the next big game is.

Even if you’re not into video gaming there’s still tons of fun things to explore. Last year, my husband and I attended and we learned how to play Magic the Gathering. The year before that, we learned to play Riichi Mahjong (not the computer version, but the real version with actual tiles). I also bought my first Songbird Ocerana here and while I still don’t know how to play it well, it’s beautiful and a lot of fun to pick up once in a while.

The food situation is one part that I would say is absolutely hectic. Amin and I try to eat around 11 am or 2 pm because frankly, the lines can be pretty insane. Conference food can be pretty expensive and unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of places to eat around there, BUT you can pack and bring your own food and drink so long as you don’t plan on selling it. Alcohol is prohibited though so it’s best to leave that at home.

Budgeting is another thing I would highly suggest. It’s easy to buy everything. Trying out games is free though the lines can be long, and the talks are free, but things like food, drink, and allllll the other things you can buy from sweaters to socks and actual games, can really take away from your budget. However, if you’re just going to look around you’ll still have a great time so please don’t feel like you’re going to have to buy stuff in order to have fun.

Another thing that is a ton of fun is to see all the cosplayers. Some of them are really well done and some…well…they might need a little more work, but dressing up as your favorite character, or wearing a nerdy shirt is acceptable behavior here.

If you’ve never been to a conference before this is a great place to start. The energy is really amazing and fun and I think you’ll have a great time overall. As I said, I’m going this year and I usually do live updates on my Instagram of cool things I see. So, if you’re planning on going and would like to meet up while there, please just message me through my Instagram profile. If you go for the fun and want to share your pictures with me, please just tag me in them, and of course, if you want to talk about how your experience was please leave a comment below. I LOVE talking to my readers, so I’ll be sure to respond. I hope you really enjoyed this post and have a wonderful day! -Heather Autumn
